There is soo much to do in LA. If you’re planning to do attractions like theme parks, definitely purchase a Go LA card. The cost of the card will cover savings on your entry to Universal Studios Hollywood alone – and much more!
It took around three hours to drive to LA from Joshua Tree. Once in LA, many of the attractions require public transport like Uber’s or renting scooters – but they were inexpensive.

We stayed at the Samesun Hollywood hostel, which is right on the main street. There were some noise issues in the evening due to the location, but it didn’t go on too late, and I felt it was acceptable alongside the low price of the room. This was my first experience staying in a shared sex dorm. I had no issues but did feel more comfortable knowing I was not the only girl as I had my friend with me. But in most hostels, you can choose to stay in a shared sex dorm (or even a private room).
Avoid celeb spotting tours. 1) You won’t actually see anyone famous (you’re more likely to spot them just out and about in the city), 2) Perhaps not a big surprise, but celebs don’t like these tours and 3) you’ll spend half your time being driven round in the cold and looking at hedges. Yes, it gets cold in the Hollywood Hills!
