We start our route in the most northerly county in the Republic of Ireland. Note the accent while you’re here – it’s rather unique compared to the rest of the Republic of Ireland! The Donegal landscape is characterised by deep valleys, steep cliffs and its Gaeltacht areas.

If you’re coming from aboard, most of you will be flying into Dublin Airport, which is on the East Coast. You can get buses to Donegal from here, but once you land in Donegal, it’s best not to depend on public transport. For the best experience, I’d recommend driving. Whether you drive from Dublin, or get a bus to Donegal and drive from there is up to you! There are other airports such as Belfast, in Northern Ireland, and even a small airport in Donegal itself, but Dublin has the most connections for the best value. Alternatively, if you want to do this route from south to north, you can fly to Cork.
We started our journey in comfort and stayed in a hotel for our first stop. The Station House is a lovely establishment with a perfect central location in the heart of Letterkenny town in Donegal.
