Welcome to the Caribbean of Bavaria: Lake Walchensee! With its turquoise water, it’s a true pearl of Bavaria. Here’s a BPT tip: Drive up Mount Herzogstand or hike about 2 hours to the top, to enjoy an unmatched view of Lake Walchensee from above. And right next to it, you’ll see the deep blue waters of Lake Kochel, offering a mesmerising contrast of colours!
Coming from Königssee, Lenggries makes a great first stop. From there, we started a white water rafting adventure to Bad Tölz. You can choose between different rafting tours – all are definitely worth the experience!
Mittenwald is nestled among mountains on the German-Austrian and is the ideal starting point for various activities such as rafting, mountain carting, gorge hiking, etc.
We drove from Königssee to Mittenwald with the Freeway Camper. Avoiding the toll roads in Austria, the journey takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Visiting a gorge is a must if you’re in Bavaria! It’s always a great experience to walk through the gorge and see how the river cuts its way through the landscape. Tip: Walk the Wasserfallsteig trail to see the 23-metre-high waterfall!
We parked at the valley station of the Kranzberg chairlift. From there, we hiked to the top station, where we rented the mountain carts. After that, we went full throttle for about 2 km down into the valley!
Rental fee per ride (incl. helmet): €8.
