📌 Spots

The Old Bridge

If you don’t have time to go to the castle or the Philosophenweg, the “Alte Brücke” is the perfect place to take good photos and experience the Heidelberg vibe. It’s very easy to get here from the old town. When you arrive at the market square, walk towards the Neckar and in 5 minutes, you’ll see the impressive Old Bridge.

Sehenswürdigkeiten
Heidelberg Castle

The castle is a must-see when you come to Heidelberg. It is a medieval building, but was partially rebuilt in the 17th-18th  century and so is still in relatively good condition today. From the old town, you can reach the castle on foot in about 20 minutes from the Uniplatz or in 13 minutes from the Marktplatz (at the end of the main street). The path is steep, so prepare yourself. You can also drive up directly by car, there are some parking spaces. But walking allows you to enjoy the views and visit the many fraternities along the way (there are more than 29 fraternities in Heidelberg!). The Alte Brücke is another good vantage point for admiring the castle. The best view, however, is from “Philosophenweg”, the mountain on the other side of the Neckar river.

🏝️ Zu Heidelberg

Heidelberg is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, thanks to its bohemian mix of old streets and small alleys leading to the Neckar River. With its endless charm, the castle, the old bridge and the old town, Heidelberg is one of the most visited destinations in Germany. A visit to the city is worthwhile any time of year. In winter, there is the wonderful Christmas market and the whole city looks like a winter wonderland. In spring, the entire city blossoms. In summer you can enjoy the warm weather along the river, and in autumn, the colours of the forests around Heidelberg are simply breath-taking.

🚍 Transport

KarlsruheHeidelberg

It only takes about 45 minutes to get from Karlsruhe to Heidelberg with the Freeway Camper. Since Heidelberg is the last destination on our route, you can drop off the camper in Mannheim at the end of your stay or drive directly back to Munich. From Heidelberg to Munich is about a 4-hour drive.

Heidelberg Castle

The castle is a must-see when you come to Heidelberg. It is a medieval building, but was partially rebuilt in the 17th-18th  century and so is still in relatively good condition today. Liebesstein
Ziegelhäuser Landstraße 2, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany

Liebesstein, which literally means “Love Stone” presents the perfect opportunity to let out your inner romantic, and hang a love lock on the love rock. Not only that, it’s also a great place to sit and rest after a long walk. Sit down, have a snack, enjoy the view, and recharge the batteries before setting off again.🙂

Philosophenweg
Philosophenweg, 69120 Heidelberg

The “Philosopher’s Way” is the best place to take great photos of your visit to Heidelberg. From this vantage point, you’ll see the whole city, including the castle, the Alte Brücke and the old town. You can reach here from Neuheim (Brückenstraße stop), where the path starts. A steep, 15-minute walk takes you to the most beautiful viewpoint in Heidelberg.

Local tip: If you continue straight ahead after reaching the viewpoint, after 10 minutes you’ll come to the Schlangenweg (literally, “snake path”). If you walk down this path, it will lead you back to the old bridge and from there, you can return to the “Old Town”.

Yilliy Chocolaterie
Haspelgasse 7, 69117 Heidelberg, Germany
https://menulist.menu/restaurants/heidelberg/chocolaterie-yilliy

If you’re looking for a place with soul, where you feel at home, Yilliy is just that place! A cosy café in the old town, the owner is Spanish and always provides delicious home-made delicacies.

Recommendation: a hot chocolate á la Spain. If you’re lucky, you might also get to see musicians play in the café and enjoy some live music.

RADA coffee & roastery
Untere Str. 21, 69117 Heidelberg, Germany
https://rada-roesterei.com

Arepas with the original taste of Venezuela. Rada is a restaurant on Untere Strasse in the old town, where you can enjoy a good coffee, and chicken, meat or vegetarian arepas.

Local tip: order your arepas to go, walk 5 minutes towards the Neckar, and enjoy your food with a view. <3

La Bruschetta
Plöck 56, 69117 Heidelberg
https://labruschettadapasquale.business.site/

Feeling hungry? Want something quick and tasty? At Pizza da Pasquale, you can get authentic Italian pizzas, and other Italian specialities that are super cheap.

Walters Restaurant
Neugasse 7, 69117 Heidelberg

A place that every student in Heidelberg should know is Walters. There you’ll find all kinds of vegetarian specialities. The soup of the day is often the top recommendation. At Walters, there are different soups offered every day and the homemade bread is top-notch.
