The Bay of Islands is the most famous place in the Northland region – an absolute must-see. The best way to explore it is taking a cruise from the city of Paihia and stopping at different islands. Make sure to include Urupukapuka island and Otehei Bay, and try to reach the Hole in the Rock. And if the weather is good, have a swim in the beautiful ocean!
The best way to visit the Bay of Islands is with a cruise. You can reach the different islands with the ferry from Paihia or Russel, the main cities. A ferry from Paihia to Russel costs about 15 dollars and the cruise to see the whole Bay costs around 140 dollars including the Urupukapuka Island stop.

There are several hostels and campsites located in Paihia and Russell where you can spend the night. The best place to stay in Paihia is Paihia Motel, a very nice place.
